Off Subject

A Reading

She had the credentials
to recite at the library
poetry reading.

A demeanor well composed,
while each poem closed
with a smile tight to her mouth.

I thought of a cat that’s caught
a mouse. Another poem…
another mouse. Without
a doubt her writing was adept,

matter-of-course. But her
satisfaction was the  
tour de force.
