Personification
Remember when hurricanes
had female names?
How Aunt Inez,
consistent contributor
of green bean casserole
at Thanksgivings,
became a threat;
how stepmother Isbell,
who graciously endured
progressive MS,
knocked the power out
of the neighborhood;
and countless girls
were alphabetized
as dangerous
by meteorologists.
Then, by Aura, the winds changed.
In 1979, cousin Bob,
purveyor of baseball caps,
rolled in from the tropics
without a woman in his forecast.
