“ we enjoyed this piece and your writing voice “
“your piece was extremely strong and wonderful to read”
but…
“ … we were unable to find a place for it at this time”
“… not now, not for [us]. Although for others: little doubt let me add”
These are quotes from editors of literary journals that have declined my submissions. First the praise, the encouragement, then the
slammer -- the but or
however. The door closes on
possible housing for a poem in print with a roof over its head, a cover, and a place
at the table of contents.
I don’t fit, a misfit, but...
there’s some other place or time to belong, they say,
and so I go foraging for a new trail, another lead, carrying my wares to the next
village of editors.
