A Nod to Simic

“Get me a room at Hotel Eternity” - Charles Simic

Where the bed is laden
white with geese,
a crystalline lake underneath,
the imponderability of place.

A window half-shut
or partly open,

the wind on a crescendo of
arising or subsiding,

a rocking chair.

In the in-between
it is surprisingly clear
that a distinction chooses
which direction we are headed.

If I pick up your used dish to rinse
you won't look back
and you will not think of me.
